Kolkata, July 27 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, alleged on Sunday that the Mamata Banerjee-led government has appointed unqualified individuals as booth-level officers (BLOs).
During a press interaction, Adhikari stated that even with permanent government staff available, the state opted for temporary workers as BLOs. He further accused certain block development officers (BDOs) of being complicit in this scheme.
"These BDOs are individuals who secured their positions by paying off the West Bengal Public Service Commission with fraudulent OBC certificates and submitting blank exam papers. To maintain their jobs and curry favor with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, these BDOs have hired temporary workers instead of utilizing qualified permanent staff," Adhikari remarked.
The BJP leader claimed to possess around 50 names of such BLOs, suggesting that the list may grow. "They must be arrested. The Trinamool Congress is determined to win elections at any cost," he asserted.
Additionally, Adhikari alleged that the Baguihati and New Town areas on Kolkata's northern fringes have turned into havens for illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Rohingyas.
In a social media update, he indicated that it is nearly impossible to find residents in these neighborhoods unaware of the influx of illegal Bangladeshi Muslims.
“The local Trinamool Congress leadership, with administrative support, is facilitating the creation of fake Indian identity documents for these illegal entrants, many of whom are already listed as voters," the Opposition Leader stated.
Sharing footage from the area, Adhikari pointed out that these individuals have participated in various Trinamool Congress rallies, including the July 21 Martyrs' Day event.
“As nationwide crackdowns on illegal immigrants begin, Mamata Banerjee becomes anxious, knowing her vote bank is at risk. If these individuals are repatriated to Bangladesh, it could spell disaster for both her government and her party," he added.
Adhikari also noted that the Chief Minister has initiated numerous political activities leading up to the 2026 Assembly elections, aimed at benefiting these illegal immigrants.
