Kolkata, Nov 11 (NationPress) The West Bengal Finance Department has intensified its scrutiny over the ongoing and future development projects of the state government to curb misappropriation of funds and guarantee swift project execution.
A new notification from the Finance Department mandates that Geo-Tagging be implemented for all current and upcoming projects.
According to the notification, all existing and future projects must be linked to their respective geographical sites through Geo-Tagging, accessible via the state's Unified Project Management System (UPMS) portal.
"Recently, a Geo-Tagging option has been introduced in the UPMS Portal for all projects. Moving forward, we urge all portal stakeholders to ensure that both existing and future projects are mapped to the geographical locations of their respective sites (Geo-tagging)," the notification states, as per a copy obtained by IANS.
"This new framework will facilitate direct and transparent oversight of each phase of project execution. The goal is to enhance transparency in the state's development initiatives and, when necessary, hold accountable those responsible for executing the concerned projects," noted a state Finance Department official.
He further emphasized that this system will prevent any department from retaining project funds without progress.
"Should the work fail to advance within the stipulated time and as per the agreed schedule, the Finance Department will reclaim the allocated funds," the official added.
The Geo-Tagging application is particularly useful for real-time monitoring of project progress and ensuring compliance with the required quality standards. Its primary aim is to guarantee complete transparency regarding project advancements and to eliminate opportunities for corruption or misuse.
"The West Bengal government has been concentrating on enhancing transparency for some time now, following numerous complaints regarding unnecessary delays in project execution and fund mismanagement. Geo-Tagging is the most recent step in this direction," remarked the state Finance Department official.
