Bangkok, Aug 3 (NationPress) Bhawna Sharma and Yatri Patel have secured their spots in the semifinals of the U22 Asian Boxing Championships 2025, guaranteeing themselves a medal after impressive victories in the quarterfinals held in the Thai capital on Sunday.
In the women’s 48kg quarterfinals, Bhawna triumphed over Vietnam’s Ngoc Linh Chi Ngo, while Yatri showcased her skills with a commanding performance against Keerththana Uthayakumar of Sri Lanka in the women’s 57kg bout, both winning by unanimous decision.
On another note, Tanu put forth a valiant effort to claim another medal for India but was narrowly defeated by local favorite Natnicha Chongprongklang in the women’s 54kg quarterfinals.
Earlier in the U19 Asian Boxing Championships 2025, India’s Shivam and Mausam Suhag achieved contrasting victories to advance in their respective weight classes on Sunday.
In the men’s 55kg category, Shivam dominated all three rounds against Turkmenistan’s Bezirgen Annayev to secure a unanimous decision.
Later, Mausam demonstrated resilience under pressure from Kazakhstan’s Nurkabyluly Mukhit in the 65kg category to achieve a close 3:2 victory.
Unfortunately, the Indian team could not complete a flawless day in the U19 division, as Shubham experienced a 0:5 defeat against Kazakhstan’s Tortubek Adilet in the 60kg bout. Three additional Indian boxers are set to compete in the U22 age group later today.
The U19 and U22 Asian Boxing Championships, currently taking place concurrently, serve as an essential platform for India’s emerging stars to exhibit their talent and determination against some of Asia’s most formidable opponents. India has sent a robust team of 40 boxers—20 in each age category—comprising a balanced mix of established champions and promising talents who have made their mark in the domestic arena.
