Visakhapatnam, Nov 4 (NationPress) The Minister of Civil Aviation, K. Ram Mohan Naidu, announced on Tuesday that an impressive 91.7% of the construction for Bhogapuram International Airport near Vizianagaram has been finalized.
He expressed optimism about the project's completion by June 2026, aiming to officially inaugurate it for the nation.
During his visit to the site, he conducted a thorough on-ground assessment of the ongoing developments. He shared insights on the 'X' platform after inspecting crucial elements such as the main terminal, arrival and departure areas, as well as baggage handling systems.
Naidu emphasized that he contributed architectural suggestions to ensure the design encapsulates the rich heritage and cultural essence of the Uttarandhra region in Andhra Pradesh.
“I convened a detailed review meeting with teams from GMR and L&T, urging them to accelerate the remaining tasks with the highest priority while maintaining world-class standards in every facet of construction and passenger experience,” he remarked.
“I am delighted to report that the project has reached 91.7% completion. Once operational, Bhogapuram Airport is poised to become a pivotal economic center in the Utharandhra Region, greatly enhancing regional connectivity, trade, and tourism,” the minister added.
He acknowledged the unwavering support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in their commitment to completing this esteemed project by June 2026.
Accompanying him were Vijayanagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu, Nellimarla MLA Lokam Madhavi, MLA Baggu Ramanamurthy, MarkFed Chairman Bangarraju, and district officials from Vizianagaram along with representatives from GMR and L&T.
In a previous review held in September, Naidu indicated that efforts were underway to ensure seamless road connectivity from Visakhapatnam to the new airport.
He noted that the connection would be established through seven access points from the port city to the airport, with completion expected by April of the following year. Additionally, he mentioned that the feasibility of an elevated expressway is currently being assessed.
