Key Takeaways
Patna, March 13 (NationPress) The Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has apprehended a government employee in a corruption case in Bettiah, located in the West Champaran district, on Friday.
The vigilance team caught Anurag Abhishek, a Field Officer at the District Dairy Development Office, in the act of allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 within his office premises.
This operation was initiated following a complaint filed by Bablu Kumar, a resident of Gaunaha.
In response to the complaint, a specialized vigilance unit from Patna executed a raid in the Banuchhapar area, leading to the arrest of the implicated official.
As per the complainant, he had acquired four cows under a dairy development initiative and was supposed to receive a government subsidy amounting to Rs 1.90 lakh.
However, the official purportedly insisted on a monetary exchange to facilitate the release of the subsidy.
Bablu Kumar reported that the officer had previously extracted Rs 32,000 from him under the pretext of insurance and other administrative costs.
Subsequently, the officer allegedly requested an additional Rs 30,000 in cash to process the remaining subsidy funds.
“Upon his repeated demands for money, I contacted the Vigilance Department and submitted a formal complaint against the dairy officer. The vigilance team apprehended him while he was accepting the Rs 30,000,” stated Bablu Kumar.
Confirming the incident, Mithilesh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the VIB, mentioned that the accused dairy field officer was arrested while receiving the bribe associated with the subsidy intended for the complainant's dairy venture.
Following the arrest, Anurag Abhishek was taken into custody and is being transported to Patna for further legal proceedings.
Officials indicated that this operation underscores the Vigilance Department’s unwavering stance against corruption within government institutions.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Previously, on March 2, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau detained Roshan Kumar, an Assistant Engineer affiliated with the District Education Project in Bettiah, for reportedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
