On Tuesday, vigilance operatives apprehended a Block Supply Officer in Samastipur and a Survey Amin in Supaul, both caught in the act of accepting bribes.
In the first incident, the Special Vigilance Bureau (SVB) detained Rajesh Kumar Bhagat, the Block Supply Officer for Vidyapati Nagar and Ujiarpur blocks in Samastipur, while he was accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 10,000.
The complaint was lodged by Ram Iqbal Singh, a resident of Maniyarpur village under Ghatho police station.
He alleged that Bhagat demanded a bribe to facilitate an increase in the additional food grain allocation under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
After investigation, the Vigilance Bureau confirmed the allegations to be prima facie valid.
A case was initiated, and an investigative team was assembled led by Akhilesh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vigilance Bureau, Patna.
The suspect was apprehended at his rented apartment near Kali Chowk under Dalsingh Sarai police station while accepting the bribe.
Following interrogation, he will be presented before the Special Vigilance Court.
In a separate operation, the Vigilance Department arrested Vikram Kumar Ram, a Survey Amin stationed in the Marauna area of Supaul, as he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The complaint was made by Jaynarayan Yadav, a resident of Khorma village under Marauna police station.
He alleged that the survey officer required payment to finalize pending land survey tasks.
After verification, the vigilance team determined the complaint to be legitimate.
Acting promptly, a team from Patna arrived in Supaul and set up a sting operation.
The suspect was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in his rented room in Nirmali.
This operation was conducted under the direction of Narendra Kumar, DSP, Vigilance Bureau, Patna.
After questioning, the suspect was taken into custody and will be presented before the Special Vigilance Court.
As news of the arrests spread, a crowd gathered at the location, causing a brief disturbance.
Vigilance officials later escorted the suspects away after completing necessary formalities.
These consecutive arrests further underscore the Vigilance Department’s ongoing efforts to address corruption within Bihar’s administrative framework.
