A Block Welfare Officer, who also serves as the Block Education Officer in Brahmapur, Buxar district, was apprehended on Thursday for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 at his workplace.
The officer, identified as Ekta Bhai, also known as Lucky, was taken into custody by a team from the Vigilance Investigation Bureau based in Patna on January 29, 2026, during a meticulously organized sting operation.
This operation was initiated following a complaint lodged by Sudhir Kumar Pathak, a teacher at the Middle School in Gayaghat.
Pathak reported that Rs 4,63,587 in arrears was due to him, and the Block Welfare Officer allegedly solicited a bribe to expedite the processing of the payment.
After the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau carried out a discreet verification, which validated the claims of illegal payment demand.
A specialized raiding team was formed under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent of Police Rita Sinha.
The team successfully ensnared the officer while he was receiving the bribe.
Following his arrest, the officer is undergoing interrogation and will soon be presented before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna.
