Patna, May 18 (NationPress) During his four-day visit to Bihar in anticipation of the 2025 Legislative Assembly Elections, Election Commissioner of India (ECI) Vivek Joshi held a critical review meeting in Valmiki Nagar on Sunday, concentrating on electoral readiness in the sensitive India-Nepal border area.
The gathering saw participation from senior officials of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Forest Department, and local administration.
It commenced with a thorough PowerPoint presentation by the SSB, detailing surveillance efforts and security measures instituted to guarantee fair elections.
Joshi highlighted the strategic relevance of border districts and stressed the necessity for coordinated actions among agencies to facilitate secure and inclusive elections.
“Voter participation in border regions is vital, and surveillance should be paired with outreach and administrative readiness,” he asserted.
The Election Commissioner instructed the SSB to enhance collaboration with local police and district authorities, recommending that the additional manpower available should be assigned to election-related tasks.
Praising the successful execution of previous elections in the area, Joshi recognized the teamwork among the SSB, Forest Department, Police, and District Administration.
He also engaged with Tharu tribal artists, valuing their cultural contributions as a vibrant aspect of the region’s democratic spirit.
Later, he visited polling stations 14 to 17 located at Government Middle School, Bagaha-2, within the Valmikinagar Assembly Constituency.
Additionally, he held discussions with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), emphasizing voter awareness and the effects of recent training.
The BLOs informed the ECI that training conducted in New Delhi by the Election Commission of India has significantly enhanced their readiness and confidence.
Joshi urged Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gujiyal to ensure that similar training sessions across Bihar maintain a robust focus on legal literacy, technical skills, and transparency.
He also underscored the necessity of active participation from Booth Level Agents of political parties, alongside BLOs, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and Assistant EROs to uphold procedural integrity at polling stations.
Joshi expressed contentment with the district’s election readiness, noting that West Champaran’s voter turnout consistently exceeds the state average.
He encouraged the local administration to implement innovative and targeted voter outreach initiatives to further enhance participation.
“This visit was essential for understanding electoral dynamics at the grassroots level. I appreciate the proactive cooperation of district officials, and I have directed the formation of specialized teams for high-quality election management,” Joshi remarked.
After concluding his engagements in Valmiki Nagar, the Election Commissioner headed towards East Champaran (Motihari) and is expected to return to New Delhi tomorrow via Vaishali and Patna.
