New Delhi, July 27 (NationPress) On the concluding day of his two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage in significant cultural and historical activities honoring the legacy of Chola emperor Rajendra Chola I on Sunday.
At approximately noon, the Prime Minister will visit the esteemed Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple located in the Tiruchirappalli district to partake in the grand millennium celebration of the emperor’s maritime expedition, which aligns with the celebration of the Aadi Tiruvathirai Festival.
During the event, PM Modi is set to unveil a commemorative coin dedicated to Rajendra Chola I, honoring one of India’s most illustrious emperors and his expansive naval conquests that broadened the Chola empire's reach throughout Southeast Asia.
The Prime Minister will also take part in a variety of other activities at Gangaikonda Cholapuram later in the day, celebrating the millennium of Rajendra Chola’s maritime achievements and reaffirming the Centre’s dedication to safeguarding and promoting ancient Indian heritage.
PM Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu on Saturday evening following his overseas visits to the United Kingdom and the Maldives.
He touched down at Tuticorin Airport at 7:50 p.m., where he was warmly welcomed by Governor R.N. Ravi, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, and Union Ministers L. Murugan and Ram Mohan Naidu.
Immediately after his arrival, the Prime Minister inaugurated the newly built terminal at Tuticorin Airport, constructed at a cost of Rs 452 crore. He also laid the groundwork and inaugurated several development projects valued at over Rs 4,900 crore. These initiatives encompass vital sectors like transport, energy, and logistics, showcasing a robust push for infrastructure advancement in the state.
Among the significant projects launched were infrastructure developments worth Rs 550 crore in Tuticorin, along with power transmission initiatives associated with the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant and the electrification of the Madurai–Bodinayakkanur railway line.
