He emphasized that the visit showcased how the region continues to foster spirituality despite ongoing attempts by certain factions to propagate atheistic narratives.
Thanking the Prime Minister for his two-day visit and a series of significant announcements, Nagenthran remarked, “PM Modi, who proudly showcases Tamil history on global stages, continues to recognize and elevate Tamil heritage on an international level. What more evidence is necessary to demonstrate his profound affection for the Tamil language, culture, and the illustrious legacy of Tamil kings?”
He referred to the Prime Minister’s visit as “historic,” noting his engagement in the 1000th-year celebration of Emperor Rajendra Chola’s reign and the inauguration of various crucial development projects.
Among the major initiatives launched was the new terminal at Thoothukudi airport, built at a cost of Rs 452 crore.
In total, projects amounting to Rs 4,900 crore were inaugurated, including the Thanjavur–Sethiyathoppu highway project.
During a public gathering in Thoothukudi, PM Modi paid heartfelt tributes to iconic Tamil figures such as V.O. Chidambaram Pillai, Veerapandiya Kattabomman, and Subramania Bharathi, as stated by Nagenthran.
Nagenthran also commended the Prime Minister’s recent act of presenting traditional Pandyan pearls to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, calling it a symbolic homage to Tamil Nadu’s rich heritage.
On the second day of his visit, PM Modi made history by becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the ancient Brihadeeswarar temple in Gangaikonda Cholapuram, where he performed abhishekam with Ganga water.
He also unveiled a commemorative coin honoring Rajendra Chola and recited the Thiruvasakam. The event highlighted traditional Thevaram recitals and a Thiruvasakam symphony composed by renowned music maestro Ilaiyaraaja.
PM Modi further declared that grand statues of Emperor Rajaraja Chola and his son Rajendra Chola would be erected in Tamil Nadu as a tribute to their impact on Indian history and culture.
“Spending two days with such a visionary leader was a truly unforgettable experience,” Nagenthran concluded.
