BJP Critiques CM Stalin for Snubbing PM Modi During Visit
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 2 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP has launched an attack on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for failing to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit, labeling this action as a break from the state's historical political customs.
In a statement, spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad noted that the Prime Minister inaugurated development initiatives valued at Rs 4,400 crore in Madurai.
Prasad emphasized that honoring visiting Prime Ministers has been a core aspect of Tamil Nadu's political ethos, regardless of party affiliations.
He accused the Chief Minister's absence at the airport as indicative of a “lack of respect for constitutional offices,” asserting that such actions should transcend political divisions.
“While political differences are a natural aspect of democracy, respect for the Prime Minister's office is integral to our federal framework and political decorum,” Prasad stated.
He also pointed out that previous Chief Ministers, regardless of their party, had adhered to this tradition when national leaders came to the state.
As of now, the DMK has not provided an official comment regarding Prasad’s allegations. However, the ruling party previously indicated that the Chief Minister's schedule and administrative duties often dictate his availability during official visits.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Modi has launched and initiated numerous infrastructure projects designed to enhance connectivity and urban growth throughout Tamil Nadu.
These projects include the four-laning of the Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram road for improved access to Rameswaram, as well as upgrades to roads expected to shorten travel times between Marakkanam and Puducherry.
In the railway sector, eight stations, including Srivilliputhur, Pollachi, and Karaikudi, are set to undergo redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat initiative.
The Prime Minister also declared a fourth railway line between Chennai Beach and Egmore to alleviate congestion on the suburban rail network. Furthermore, 24/7 FM transmitters will be established in Kumbakonam, Yercaud, and Vellore to enhance public broadcasting services.
BJP leaders pointed out that significant funding has been allocated to Tamil Nadu over the last decade for infrastructure and welfare initiatives, claiming that a more robust collaboration between the Centre and the state could further expedite growth.
As the Assembly elections approach, discussions surrounding protocol, governance, and development are anticipated to escalate in Tamil Nadu's dynamic political environment.
