M.K. Stalin Amplifies Critique of NDA as 2026 Elections Loom
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 25 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has escalated his critique of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday, asserting that the increased frequency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to Tamil Nadu will only deepen the NDA's impending electoral defeat in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
During a government function in Nagercoil where welfare assistance was handed out, Stalin remarked on Modi's heightened presence in the state as the elections draw near.
“As election season approaches, we can expect more visits from the Prime Minister. The more he comes here, the larger the NDA's impending defeat will be,” he claimed, adding that even Modi's allies are apprehensive about the ramifications of these visits.
The Chief Minister criticized the Union government for what he called neglect of Tamil Nadu, highlighting the recent approval of a Metro Rail project for Gujarat while alleging that Tamil Nadu has not received comparable developmental projects.
“Even with elections on the horizon, there was no allocation for Tamil Nadu in the Budget,” he stated, emphasizing that citizens will not forget what he labeled as the Centre’s “step-motherly treatment.”
Positioning the upcoming elections as a battle between Tamil Nadu and the NDA, Stalin insisted that governance must remain “from Fort St. George and not from Delhi.”
He asserted that the elections will be pivotal in determining Tamil Nadu's autonomy in governance, also raising concerns regarding the ongoing detainment of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Challenging the BJP’s performance over the past 12 years, he questioned what actions have been taken to resolve this issue.
“Who oversees the External Affairs Ministry and the Navy?” he pressed, holding the Central government responsible.
Stalin also criticized the alliance between AIADMK and the BJP, branding it as a frail partnership while contrasting it with the accomplishments of the “Dravidian Model” government, which boasts an 11.19 percent growth rate.
He pledged that the DMK will reclaim power with “Dravidian Model 2.0,” aiming to surpass its previous achievements. A variety of ministers, legislators, and local leaders were present at the event.
