Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 3 (NationPress) Calling the Union Budget for 2026–27 a “significant letdown” for the citizens of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin remarked on Tuesday that the state would issue a strong political response to the BJP-led NDA administration in the upcoming Assembly elections.
While speaking to the media in Chennai, Stalin expressed disappointment, stating that the state had anticipated meaningful allocations and policy support from the Central government but was left wanting.
“I have previously mentioned this. The outcome has been nothing short of disappointment. We anticipated a shift, yet nothing has changed. We were met only with disappointment,” he stated.
The Chief Minister characterized the Budget as a blow to Tamil Nadu’s developmental goals, asserting that the populace would remember this neglect.
“The citizens will respond accordingly,” he noted, suggesting that the upcoming elections would act as a referendum on the Centre’s attitude toward the State.
Simultaneously, Stalin adopted a conciliatory stance when questioned about his political adversaries. “I do not view anyone as an enemy; rather, I see them as friends,” he indicated, emphasizing his commitment to governance over conflict.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister launched various public welfare initiatives in his Kolathur Assembly constituency.
A significant highlight was the inauguration of a new multi-storey healthcare facility built by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority at an expense of Rs 11.74 crore.
This facility offers a variety of medical services to enhance treatment accessibility for residents, including a physiotherapy center on the first floor, and an artificial limb center on the second floor to assist differently-abled patients.
The third floor is designated for dialysis services, while the fourth floor provides additional patient care amenities, including a blood purification unit.
Stalin also opened six new ration shops in the area and inaugurated a park developed near Kolathur Lake to provide recreational space for families.
In his outreach efforts, he distributed books, laptops, and other support to students and beneficiaries.
Attending the events were Ministers K.R. Periakaruppan, Ma. Subramanian, and P.K. Sekarbabu, along with Chennai Mayor R. Priya, legislators, and senior officials, highlighting the government’s commitment to welfare initiatives and infrastructure advancements ahead of the election year.
