Will PM Modi Release a Commemorative Coin Honoring Emperor Rajendra Chola I Today in Tamil Nadu?

Chennai, July 27 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu. On Sunday, he will participate in the grand 'Aadi Thiruvathirai' festivities at the historic Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple, commemorating the 1,000-year anniversary of Emperor Rajendra Chola’s maritime expedition.

During this event, he is set to unveil a commemorative coin honoring Emperor Rajendra Chola I, celebrating the legacy of the Chola king’s naval expeditions in Southeast Asia and the temple’s millennial milestone.

His visit follows a significant day in the state that included the launch of extensive development projects worth Rs 4,900 crore and an important political meeting with AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

After arriving in Tuticorin from the Maldives on Saturday evening, PM Modi inaugurated the newly constructed terminal building at Tuticorin Airport, which cost Rs 452 crore. He also laid the groundwork for several infrastructure projects, including power transmission works linked to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, the doubling of essential railway lines, electrification of the Madurai-Bodinayakkanur railway segment, and enhancements to logistics at the V.O. Chidambaranar Port.

After these engagements, PM Modi traveled to Tiruchirappalli and checked into a private hotel for the night. Later, he held a closed-door meeting with AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami at Trichy Airport. This meeting is notable as it marks their first formal discussion since the AIADMK renewed its alliance with the BJP ahead of the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

The meeting is politically significant as discussions regarding power-sharing and seat allocation within the NDA in Tamil Nadu continue.

This morning at 11 a.m., the Prime Minister will greet the public during a brief roadshow at key locations like Cantonment and Bharathidasan Road, where iron barricades have been set up.

From the airport, PM Modi will travel by helicopter to Gangaikonda Cholapuram. Upon his arrival, he will be welcomed with a poorna kumbham by the seer of the Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam. A maha abhishekam will be conducted using holy Ganga water brought from Varanasi to honor Lord Brihadeeswarar.

The Prime Minister is anticipated to spend three minutes in silent meditation at the sanctum sanctorum and will visit an archaeological photo exhibition organized by the state’s Department of Archaeology.

The cultural segment will feature a special symphony concert by music maestro Ilaiyaraaja, which the Prime Minister is expected to attend briefly. At 1.45 p.m., he will depart by helicopter from Gangaikonda Cholapuram and arrive at Trichy Airport by 2.25 p.m. PM Modi is scheduled to return to Delhi at 2.30 p.m.
