New Delhi, June 28 (NationPress) In preparation for the crucial Bihar Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. This effort aims to verify the eligibility of every voter in the state.
The ongoing drive is being executed in close collaboration with political parties and district administrations. As part of the SIR, the ECI is enhancing its booth-level workforce by appointing 20,603 additional Booth Level Officers (BLOs), increasing the existing total to 77,895 BLOs across the state.
In addition, more than 1 lakh volunteers have been enlisted to assist legitimate voters, particularly focusing on senior citizens, the disabled, the sick, economically disadvantaged individuals, and other vulnerable groups.
All recognized national and state political parties have designated 1,54,977 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to support the revision process, with the possibility of appointing more agents as the process evolves. Enumeration Forms (EFs) are being distributed door-to-door and are also accessible online for Bihar’s 7.89 crore registered voters across 243 Assembly constituencies.
Of these, approximately 4.96 crore electors registered as of January 1, 2003, are required only to verify their details and submit the EF.
District Magistrates and Divisional Commissioners are supervising the deployment of BLOs, who are now fully dedicated to the revision effort.
Moreover, the ECI is engaging voters through SMS campaigns aimed at over 5.74 crore registered mobile numbers in Bihar.
The election body has assured that all activities are on track and reiterated its constitutional obligation to ensure that only Indian citizens aged 18 and above, who ordinarily reside in a constituency, are eligible to vote.
This initiative represents one of the most extensive voter verification exercises in Bihar, highlighting the ECI’s commitment to maintaining a clean and accurate electoral roll through maximum citizen and political involvement.
With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching in the coming months, political parties have intensified their outreach efforts, engaging with the public on the ground and organizing rallies alongside the announcement of several welfare schemes.
Additionally, opposition parties, including Congress and CPI, are raising concerns about the Voter List Revision and are criticizing the poll body, alleging that it is acting under the influence of the BJP.
