Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A man was allegedly beaten to death by his younger son and three to four accomplices at a home in Supaul district, Bihar, in the early hours of Monday, 19 October. The victim's wife sustained a fracture in one arm when she tried to intervene, according to police.
How the attack unfolded
The incident occurred in Ward No. 3 of Thadhi Bhawanipur panchayat under the Pipra police station area. According to the victim's wife, Askara, an argument had broken out between her husband, Shaukat Khan, and their younger son, Ahmad, on Sunday night. The dispute appeared to subside and family members retired to their rooms.
However, Ahmad allegedly returned at around 4 am on Monday accompanied by three to four men and attacked his sleeping parents with sticks and clubs. When Askara attempted to intervene, the assailants allegedly turned on her as well, fracturing one of her arms. The attackers fled before neighbours could arrive after hearing the commotion.
Victim's condition and police response
Shaukat Khan was found unconscious and bleeding at the scene. Police reached the spot after receiving information and transported him to the Pipra Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead. His body was subsequently sent to Sadar Hospital in Supaul for a post-mortem examination.
Allegations against the accused
Askara alleged that Ahmad had been struggling with drug addiction and was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the attack. She also claimed he had a prior criminal record and had recently been released from jail in connection with a theft case. Police have noted that these allegations are yet to be independently verified.
Investigation under way
Pipra Station House Officer (SHO) Kishor Kumar confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is under way. 'The police are recording the statement of the injured woman, based on which an FIR will be registered,' he said. 'A police team has launched raids at suspected locations to apprehend Ahmad and his alleged accomplices, who remain absconding,' the SHO added. The incident has triggered grief within the family and deep concern among residents of the village.
