What Led to the Fatal Attack in Buxar That Left One Dead and Six Injured?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Jan 7 (NationPress) A long-standing land dispute erupted violently in Bhakhwa village, located in the Sikraul police station area of Bihar’s Buxar district on Wednesday, resulting in the tragic death of one individual and injuries to several others.
This incident has once again cast a shadow of fear and anxiety over the community.
According to law enforcement officials, armed attackers targeted Sanjay Chaubey in broad daylight, indiscriminately firing weapons and assaulting villagers with sticks and clubs.
Sanjay Chaubey was killed instantly, while more than six others suffered significant injuries during the assault.
The injured victims were swiftly transported to Sadar Hospital in Buxar, where they are currently receiving medical care.
The conflict involves a disputed six-acre piece of land that has been a contentious issue between the two factions for over thirty years.
The father of the deceased, Kashi Nath Chaubey, previously had a legal battle with Kanhaiya Chaubey and Ganesh Chaubey.
In 1991, Kashi Nath Chaubey was murdered in connection with this ongoing dispute; both accused were subsequently convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Recently, Kanhaiya and Ganesh Chaubey were granted bail by the Patna High Court and returned to the village.
Sources indicate that after one faction received a favorable court ruling, its members attempted to cultivate the disputed land on Wednesday.
At that moment, the accused reportedly arrived in a Scorpio vehicle accompanied by 20-25 supporters and commenced shooting indiscriminately.
Following the gunfire, the attackers also assaulted villagers with sticks and clubs, resulting in serious injuries to multiple individuals.
With the assistance of local residents, the injured were taken to the hospital for urgent care.
At Sadar Hospital, the deceased’s brother, Dhananjay Chaubey, accused local authorities of negligence.
“This is supposed to be the era of good governance. Despite numerous phone calls, police did not arrive promptly. If they had responded sooner, my brother's life could have been spared, and such a brazen incident in broad daylight might have been averted,” he stated.
Upon receiving the report, police personnel arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.
Additional police forces have been dispatched to the vicinity to uphold law and order amid rising tensions.
Buxar Police, in an official statement, confirmed the apprehension of four suspects — Kanhaiya Chaubey, Ganesh Chaubey, Jagbali Chaubey, and Vashistha Chaubey — all residents of Bhakhwa village, within hours of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
