An Intermediate student was allegedly abducted and beaten to death in Begusarai, Bihar, on Wednesday, 28 May, while a separate dispute in Gopalganj left a woman dead after she was allegedly assaulted with an iron rod — two violent incidents that have deepened alarm over crime and revenge violence across the state.

The Begusarai Abduction and Murder

The victim, Vikas Kumar, son of Ram Uday Yadav and a resident of Kankaul village, had left home on Wednesday telling family members he was going to submit a scholarship application form. He did not return by evening.

According to family members, a local youth identified as Mohit Yadav, alias Karelal, was seen taking Vikas away on a motorcycle. Police investigations suggest that Mohit Yadav and a second accused, Vikas Yadav, allegedly abducted and killed the student before dumping his body in the Diara region of Khagaria district, according to an official.

A video purportedly showing the student being taken away on a motorcycle has surfaced and gone viral, intensifying public anger and fear in the area. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station.

Social Media Rivalry Cited as Motive

Family members allege the killing was rooted in an old rivalry linked to social media. According to them, a fake Facebook account had previously been created in the name of Vikas Kumar's younger brother, through which objectionable content was circulated. One of the accused was reportedly jailed following complaints but had recently secured bail. The family claims the murder was carried out as an act of revenge.

This is not an isolated pattern — revenge violence stemming from social media disputes has been reported with increasing frequency across Bihar in recent years, raising questions about whether law enforcement has adequate tools to monitor and pre-empt such escalations.

Police Response in Begusarai

Following protests and mounting public pressure on Thursday, police launched a formal investigation under the supervision of the Sadar-1 DSP. Two accused individuals have reportedly been detained for questioning. Authorities are examining the viral video footage, digital evidence, mobile and social media records, and the sequence of events leading to the murder.

Woman Beaten to Death in Gopalganj

In a separate incident, a woman was allegedly beaten to death with an iron rod in Mahradeur village under the Bhore Police Station area of Gopalganj district. According to officials, the clash began over the dumping of waste behind a house — a minor dispute that rapidly turned violent between two groups.

The woman was allegedly assaulted repeatedly with the iron rod during the altercation. She was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but was declared dead by doctors.

Protests and Road Blockade in Gopalganj

Following news of her death, angry villagers and family members blocked the Bhore–Mirganj main road, staging protests and demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and compensation for the victim's family. The blockade disrupted traffic for several hours and created a tense atmosphere in the region.

Police officials, including the Hathua SDPO, reached the spot and attempted to pacify protesters. Additional security personnel have been deployed in the village, and raids are reportedly underway to arrest those responsible. Both cases are expected to draw scrutiny from state authorities as Bihar faces renewed pressure over law and order.
