Is Bihar's Taj City Centre Prepared for Terror Threats?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 16 (NationPress) A wave of alarm swept through Patna on Monday as reports indicated that armed terrorists had infiltrated the Taj City Centre, setting off blasts at the main entrance and taking multiple hostages.
However, it was soon clarified that the alarming situation was merely a mock drill organized by security agencies to evaluate their emergency response capabilities.
As part of the drill, two simulated explosions were executed at the hotel’s primary entrance, followed by a scenario where terrorists invaded the facility.
Upon receiving the alert, local police and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) swiftly arrived at the location.
The entire hotel complex was quickly secured, with barricades erected, and a strategic operation was initiated.
ATS members conducted a thorough search within the hotel premises.
After a coordinated effort, all simulated terrorists were apprehended, and the hostages were safely rescued, successfully wrapping up the drill.
During this operation, stringent security measures were enforced around the hotel.
In addition to the police force, bomb disposal units and various security agencies remained on high alert.
Traffic in the vicinity was temporarily disrupted, causing minor inconveniences for commuters, but normal operations resumed promptly after the drill's conclusion.
Elaborating on the exercise, Krishna Murari Prasad, ASP (Law and Order-1), Patna, stated that the hotel's location in a prime area attracts a significant number of domestic and international visitors, rendering it a sensitive site.
“We received numerous calls regarding the incident. We urge the public to remain calm; this was simply a mock drill aimed at enhancing our security preparedness. The safety of the public is our utmost priority,” he said.
Officials emphasized that such drills are routinely conducted at hotels, shopping centers, and crowded public venues to assess response times, coordination, and operational readiness in case of a real emergency.
The mock drill effectively conveyed that security agencies in Patna are vigilant, coordinated, and prepared to address any potential threats.
