Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, April 10 (NationPress) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), in opposition, is set to commemorate the 29th death anniversary of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik with the observance of 'Prabada Purusha Divas' throughout all constituencies in the state.
During a press briefing at Sankha Bhawan, the headquarters of BJD, senior leaders outlined the events planned for the occasion of Biju Babu's death anniversary.
Debi Prasad Mishra, Senior Vice-President of BJD, revealed that local leadership across every Assembly constituency has been directed to execute the 'Prabada Purusha Divas' activities.
“The specifics of the programs will be determined at the local level, but activities will include Tila Tarpana (offering water mixed with black sesame seeds), garlanding of statues, distribution of fruits to the underprivileged and patients, as well as blood donation camps,” Mishra explained.
He also mentioned that guidelines have been given for hosting intellectual discussions focusing on Biju Babu's significant role in the freedom movement and the development of modern Odisha.
Mishra emphasized that leaders from the party's various organizations will aid in organizing these events.
The day will be marked by profound tributes to the everlasting spirit of Biju Patnaik, honoring the legendary leader's invaluable contributions. Similar ceremonies will also take place at the BJD headquarters, Sankha Bhawan, as is customary every year.
The BJD leaders in Bhubaneswar plan to conduct the Tila Tarpana ritual at Bindusagar in the morning, followed by the garlanding of Biju Babu's statue and the distribution of fruits to patients.
During the press conference, Bhubaneswar District President and former minister Ashok Panda informed reporters that an intellectual discussion session will also be hosted at the party headquarters.
It is worth noting that this iconic leader of Odisha was not only a freedom fighter but also an aviator and a visionary statesman who significantly influenced the trajectory of modern Odisha's development.
Recently, a controversy arose after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, while discussing alleged misdeeds of the Nehru-Gandhi family, characterized Biju Patnaik as a “link” between Jawaharlal Nehru, the US government, and the CIA during the Chinese conflict.
This statement received strong backlash from Naveen Patnaik, BJD president and son of Biju Patnaik, who labeled Dubey's remarks as “outrageous” and “baseless.”
