Bhubaneswar, April 17 (NationPress) Naveen Patnaik, President of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), honored the remarkable legacy of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik on the anniversary of his death, reflecting on his unparalleled contributions to both the nation and the state of Odisha.

While addressing party members, Patnaik expressed profound admiration for the "great son of the soil," hailing Biju Patnaik as a monumental figure and a beacon of bravery, patriotism, and dignity. He emphasized that Biju Babu's influence continues to motivate future generations and will forever remain a part of our heritage.

In his speech, Patnaik highlighted Biju Patnaik's significant role in championing women's empowerment in India as early as the 1990s.

“It is coincidental that the Women Reservation Bill is being deliberated in Parliament on the death anniversary of Biju Babu. His early advocacy for women's empowerment in the 90s laid the groundwork for such initiatives. The BJD firmly supports the Women's Reservation Bill, underscoring our commitment to women's empowerment,” stated Patnaik.

Patnaik also voiced serious concerns regarding the upcoming delimitation process, indicating that it casts a "major doubt" on the political identity of the Odia people and threatens their self-respect.

He revealed that he recently sent a letter to the Chief Minister, urging a special session of the State Assembly within 48 hours to adopt a resolution that would protect Odisha's political interests during the delimitation process. He criticized the state government for appearing as a "silent observer," more focused on safeguarding BJP interests over those of Odisha and its citizens.

Patnaik called for solidarity among all Members of Parliament from Odisha, regardless of their political affiliations, to collectively address the issue. “If we do not unite at this pivotal moment, history will not look kindly upon us,” he cautioned.

He characterized Biju Patnaik's essence as expansive as the sky, as tolerant as the earth, and as monumental as the Himalayas.

In a pointed remark, the BJD leader criticized certain estranged political figures who claim Biju Patnaik's legacy, suggesting that these individuals are often at ease in roles of treachery, while the public is aware of their true motives.

Patnaik raised alarms about Odisha's political stature, lamenting its historical neglect by successive central governments.

In conclusion, he asserted that Biju Patnaik epitomized Odia pride, and the finest tribute to him would be a united effort to protect the interests and identity of Odisha.
