New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored the legacy of former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik on his 110th birth anniversary, reflecting on his significant contributions and unwavering dedication to the advancement of the state.

In a post on X, Modi expressed gratitude for the late leader’s commitment to Odisha’s development, stating, “On his birth anniversary today, I pay my respects to Shri Biju Patnaik Ji and remember his fervor for enhancing Odisha’s progress.”

Biju Patnaik held the office of Chief Minister twice, initially from 1961 to 1963 and again from 1990 to 1995. His leadership is remembered for launching pivotal industrial and infrastructure projects that substantially boosted Odisha’s economy.

Noteworthy among his achievements were the creation of Paradip Port and the enhancement of the Choudwar-Barbil industrial corridor, both of which were instrumental in fortifying Odisha’s industrial framework.

Beyond industrial advancements, Patnaik was a trailblazer in advocating for women's reservations in local governance, a progressive step that was ahead of its time. His exceptional leadership earned him the title of “Hero of Kalinga.”

Patnaik's influence extended beyond state politics; he was recognized for his contributions during World War II and on various international platforms.

He remains the only Indian leader whose remains were honored with the national flags of India, Russia, and Indonesia after his death, a testament to his global impact.

Earlier, Naveen Patnaik, Biju Patnaik's son and Leader of the Opposition in the Odisha Assembly, also paid tribute to his father.

Naveen Patnaik shared a heartfelt message on X, stating, “On this birth anniversary of our great people's hero and Odia pride, former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, I extend my sincere homage.”

He emphasized how the late leader's ideals continue to motivate the members of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). “Every worker of the BJD is committed to serving Odisha Ma in line with his ideals. His vision of a prosperous Odisha that includes everyone serves as a lasting inspiration for us all,” he remarked.

The BJD also recognized the late leader through a post on X, honoring him as a brave son of Odisha who dedicated his life to serving both the nation and the state.

“Saluting the courageous son of Odisha's soil, the great people's hero, former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, on his birth anniversary. Like an eagle soaring through a storm, he exemplified valor in serving the country; his relentless efforts were aimed at elevating Odisha to greatness,” the party stated in their tribute.

The party further asserted, “Inspired by his vision, the Biju Janata Dal remains committed to serving Odisha's soil.”
