Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, Dec 26 (NationPress) Amidst ongoing discussions about the party's future and potential leadership changes, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is destined to be the voice of the people of Odisha for the next century.
This statement was made during a state-level gathering commemorating the regional party's 29th Foundation Day at its headquarters on Friday.
While addressing attendees, the BJD President remarked, "In a democracy, both triumphs and defeats are inevitable. Currently, some individuals and political entities are attempting to circulate misinformation about our party. Speculations suggest that the Biju Janata Dal may disband. I want to clarify that the BJD transcends individual leaders—it's a movement that resonates with the ambitions and pride of the Odia people. BJD is and will remain a beacon for the citizens of Odisha for the next 100 years."
During his speech, Patnaik emphasized the party's deep ties to the identity, aspirations, and dignity of the people of Odisha.
"BJD is more than a political entity; it is a movement of the people. The hopes and dreams of 4.5 crore citizens are intertwined with this party," he stated.
Recognizing the BJD as one of India's most triumphant regional parties, Patnaik reflected on its service to Odisha since 1997, driven by the principles of Biju Patnaik. He articulated that service, self-respect, and activism have been the 'Mantra' of the BJD.
Patnaik further claimed that the 24-year reign of the BJD government from 2000 to 2024 represented the 'golden era' for Odisha's progress. "We have battled poverty, hunger, infant mortality, and natural disasters—and we have triumphed. We have given Odisha a refreshed identity. We have empowered women, enhanced farmers' income, instituted free healthcare under BSKY, bolstered the state’s economy, attracted investments, and created job opportunities for the youth," he added.
The BJD leader also criticized the current BJP-led state administration, questioning the validity of their claims regarding 'double engine development'.
"Where is the progress? Farmers lack access to fertilizers, markets are closed, Mission Shakti mothers are in distress, and our youth are disheartened. In the past 18 months under the double-engine government, 18 examination papers have been compromised. It seems as if there is no effective governance in the state. We should discuss the law-and-order situation. Crimes against women are escalating, and young girls are increasingly at risk," Patnaik continued.
In his address to the young members of the party, Patnaik hailed them as essential assets of the regional party. He encouraged them to engage more actively on social media to counter misinformation about the BJD.
"In politics, patience is a virtue. I have complete confidence in your efforts and dedication. Together, we will transform today's challenges into future opportunities and persist in our mission for an empowered Odisha," the BJD President urged the youth.
