Guwahati, March 16 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Monday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will unveil its full roster of candidates on March 18 for the impending Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9.

During a press briefing, CM Sarma indicated that the party plans to disclose all nominees in a single announcement, demonstrating that the BJP has considerably finalized its strategies ahead of these significant elections.

“The BJP will unveil the list of our candidates on March 18. The entire roster will be released simultaneously,” Sarma stated.

Today, Sarma is heading to New Delhi for crucial discussions with the BJP's central leadership regarding the candidate selection for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned that he intends to file his nomination for the upcoming elections on March 20.

Before his departure to New Delhi, CM Sarma visited the Durga temple in Rani, located on the outskirts of Guwahati, to offer his prayers.

He sought blessings at the temple as political activities ramp up in anticipation of the election.

This announcement follows the Election Commission of India's recent declaration of the Assam Assembly election schedule.

Voting for the 126-member Assembly will occur in a single phase on April 9, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.

As the election timetable has been announced, political maneuvers have intensified across the state, with parties preparing to select candidates and finalize campaign plans.

The BJP, which currently governs the state, will contest these elections in collaboration with its partners — the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).

Sources suggest that the seat-sharing arrangement among coalition partners has been finalized, with the BJP expected to contest approximately 90 of the 126 Assembly seats.

The remaining seats will be allocated to its allied partners — AGP and BPF.

In recent weeks, Sarma and other BJP leaders have engaged in numerous organizational meetings to evaluate the party's readiness and assess potential candidates across various constituencies.

The candidate announcement is anticipated to initiate a significant political momentum, prompting rival parties to enhance their preparations.

The Opposition Congress has already commenced releasing its candidate lists and ramping up its campaign efforts throughout the state.
