Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 25 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently positioned strongly in numerous Assembly constituencies statewide, suggesting that many new candidates will be introduced in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking to the media, CM Sarma emphasized that the BJP's organizational prowess and governance achievements have solidified its standing in at least 103 Assembly seats.
“The BJP holds a robust position in at least 103 Assembly seats,” he stated.
The Chief Minister noted that given the party’s current roster of 63 sitting MLAs, it is expected that a considerable number of new faces will be nominated this election cycle.
“With 63 MLAs, it’s clear that about 40 new faces will be vying for Assembly seats on behalf of the BJP,” CM Sarma remarked, hinting at a strategy aimed at rejuvenation and broader representation.
Regarding alliance matters, he mentioned that discussions about seat-sharing with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and other regional parties, especially in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), are nearing completion.
He indicated that engagements with alliance partners have been progressing well and are close to reaching a conclusive stage. “We have nearly finalized seat-sharing agreements with the Asom Gana Parishad and other regional entities in Bodoland,” the CM informed reporters, asserting that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Assam remains united and committed to electoral readiness.
The Chief Minister further revealed that a final decision on seat-sharing among alliance partners is anticipated by mid-March.
“The final seat-sharing will be confirmed by mid-March,” he added.
CM Sarma reiterated that the BJP-led administration’s emphasis on development, welfare initiatives, and enhanced governance has bolstered public support for the party across various regions. He expressed optimism that the NDA would approach the elections armed with a clear plan and a robust organizational framework.
As the Assembly elections approach, political activity in Assam has intensified, with parties ramping up their preparations and alliance discussions gaining traction.
