New Delhi, Sep 12 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a police complaint against the Congress, alleging the circulation of an AI-generated deepfake video that purportedly tarnishes the reputation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his deceased mother, Heeraben Modi.

In a complaint submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Parliamentary Street, Delhi, BJP Election Cell Convenor Sanket Gupta called for the immediate registration of an FIR, highlighting a “gross violation of law, morality, and women’s dignity.”

The complaint points to a video shared on the official social media handle of the Bihar Congress on platform X on September 10, 2025. Gupta condemned the act as “shameful and unlawful,” asserting that the manipulated video was designed to defame both the Prime Minister and the sanctity of motherhood.

“A mother embodies purity, sacrifice, and dignity. To maliciously alter her image and voice for political slander is an assault not only on the Prime Minister’s reputation but also a serious affront to the dignity of motherhood and womanhood,” the complaint stated.

The BJP contended that such behavior exemplifies “political bankruptcy at its worst” and cautioned that the unchecked spread of fabricated content could encourage others to exploit women’s dignity for political gain.

The party also referenced earlier incidents during Congress and RJD rallies in Bihar, where derogatory remarks were allegedly directed at PM Modi’s late mother. They invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 pertaining to defamation, forgery of electronic records, and public mischief, alongside provisions from the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Judicial precedents that uphold the right to reputation and dignity were also cited.

The BJP has called on the police to seize digital evidence, instruct platform X to take down the content, and investigate the conspiracy behind the creation and spread of the video.

“This is not just a personal attack but a direct assault on India’s democratic institutions,” Gupta asserted, demanding “strong legal action” to safeguard the dignity of women and the honor of the Prime Minister.

Point of View

It is crucial to maintain a balanced perspective. The BJP's claim against the Congress highlights the increasing concern over the use of technology in political discourse. While the party demands accountability, it is essential to assess the implications of deepfake technology on democratic values and the dignity of individuals involved in politics.
