Chennai, Oct 18 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP President, Nainar Nagenthran, has criticized the governing DMK administration for its significant failures and lack of attention regarding the paddy procurement operations in the Nagapattinam district.
In a pointed statement, Nagenthran charged that the government's absence of foresight has left countless farmers in distress, with paddy procurement at direct purchase centres (DPCs) halted for more than 10 days.
“Reports indicate that over 15,000 sacks of paddy are currently accumulating in various centres throughout the district, severely impacting farmers. The justification of the delay by officials due to storage constraints is simply unacceptable,” he expressed.
The BJP leader insisted that it is the government's responsibility to foresee seasonal changes and act accordingly.
“The onset of the monsoon and the Deepavali festival were anticipated well ahead of time. A responsible government should have executed paddy procurement and ensured timely payments to farmers before the rains. Instead, the DMK's incompetence has led to harvested paddy rotting outdoors,” he noted.
Nagenthran also criticized Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for what he termed a “publicity-focused” approach that overlooks the genuine issues faced by farmers.
“The DMK administration operates like an advertising campaign—lots of show, but no real substance. While it spends lavishly on promotions, it neglects the fundamental needs of the agricultural community,” he asserted.
Referring to CM Stalin's repeated claims of being a “son of the Delta”, the BJP leader challenged the Chief Minister to back up that assertion with tangible actions.
“If the title 'Delta son' carries any meaning, he must urgently initiate a full-scale procurement of paddy from farmers and protect their livelihoods,” Nainar Nagenthran stated.
He called on the government to mobilize sufficient personnel and transportation resources to address the “backlog” at DPCs without further procrastination, warning that “persistent negligence” could exacerbate the struggles of paddy farmers throughout the Delta region.
