Chennai, Oct 28 (NationPress) Actor and politician C. Joseph Vijay, the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), fiercely criticized the DMK government on Tuesday regarding its management of paddy procurement and the impact of floods in the Cauvery Delta region. He accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of betraying farmers and displaying indifference to their essential livelihoods.
In a pointed address, Vijay remarked that the persistent rains have not only ruined paddy crops but have also revealed the incompetence and negligence of the current regime.
"As the soaked grains begin to sprout, so does the rising public resistance against the DMK’s anti-people governance, which will ultimately lead to this government’s downfall," he asserted.
Vijay questioned the government’s inaction regarding the protection of the remaining paddy stocks from continued rainfall.
"A government that genuinely cares for farmers would implement measures to safeguard their livelihoods and assist them in recovering their financial footing. Instead, this administration is suffocating struggling farmers by procrastinating procurement and allowing their hard-earned produce to perish in the rain,” he emphasized.
Stating that impoverished farmers rely solely on agriculture for survival, Vijay insisted they deserve a fair system that guarantees timely procurement and equitable pricing.
"Every year, we witness this disheartening situation repeat itself. Is the Stalin administration intentionally obstructing farmers from profiting by selling their produce?" he queried.
The TVK leader further lambasted the DMK’s assertions of advocating for the Delta region, dismissing it as mere political theater.
"Stalin claims to be a native of the Delta, yet year after year, farmers’ crops are devastated by monsoon rains while the government remains passive. Shouldn’t there be preventive measures to mitigate such losses? Shouldn’t storage facilities be enhanced to secure harvested paddy?" he challenged.
Drawing a striking analogy, Vijay suggested that just as neglected grains sprout within storage bags, public discontent against the DMK is beginning to take root in people’s minds.
"This growing dissatisfaction will soon intensify, pushing the anti-people rulers back to their homes," he asserted.
He called on the government to immediately cease all actions detrimental to farmers’ livelihoods and to adopt urgent measures to protect crops and citizens during the ongoing northeast monsoon season.
