Chennai, Dec 20 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagenthran has issued a fierce criticism of the DMK government, accusing it of showing “zero compassion” towards the working class, especially nurses engaged in protests demanding equal pay for equal work and permanent employment.

In a strongly worded statement, Nagenthran condemned the government's purported forceful removal of protesting nurses and their detention in a hall near the Kelambakkam bus stand. He stated that the nurses—many of whom are women—were locked away without basic amenities, food, or water, calling this action “inhumane and authoritarian.”

He emphasized that instead of addressing the concerns of nurses who care for patients “with humanity and motherly affection,” the DMK government acted as if the protesters were criminals.

Nagenthran questioned if such tactics were representative of the “Dravidian model” that the ruling party proudly promotes. He also criticized the government's slogan of “Empowered Tamil Women,” deeming it hollow when hundreds of nurses were reportedly detained without essentials.

The BJP leader accused the DMK of abandoning its election promises regarding employment reforms, equal wages, and job security. He claimed that when pressed about unfulfilled commitments, the government resorts to suppressing dissent rather than addressing real grievances.

Nagenthran referred to reports from association representatives indicating that Health Minister Ma Subramanian allegedly used a “threatening tone” towards nurse leaders during discussions, which he described as a sign of arrogance and intolerance within the ruling party. He expressed disbelief at the minister's lack of empathy towards frontline workers—especially those who served during crises—calling it “shocking and contradictory to the government’s declared values.”

Nagenthran asserted that the DMK's governance has become hostile towards labor and characterized its election pledges as deceptive. He warned that a government that wins votes on promises and subsequently silences those who believed in it cannot expect to remain in power. He reiterated that protests based on moral grounds for just demands should not be met with coercion, labeling the alleged actions as indicative of a “fascist mindset.”

Nagenthran concluded by stating that the DMK government has failed in both compassion and accountability, and that the people of Tamil Nadu will remember these incidents when they head to the polls next time.
