Chennai, Dec 17 (NationPress) The president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, Nainar Nagenthran, asserted on Wednesday that the DMK government is more focused on politically confronting the Centre than on addressing the genuine needs and welfare of the citizens in the State.
He claimed that the ruling party has consistently maintained a confrontational attitude on various issues without providing real benefits to the populace.
In statements to reporters, Nagenthran noted that the DMK government has repeatedly initiated disputes with the Union government rather than concentrating on effective governance and development. He accused the State government of hindering the establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across Tamil Nadu and unnecessarily escalating the language issue, leading to increased tensions with the Centre.
“The DMK administration is engaging in diversionary tactics instead of taking constructive steps for the populace. They have failed to provide a governance model centered on the people but have opted for confrontation with the Centre through legal battles, impeding the establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and adopting an anti-Hindi position,” he stated.
Nagenthran also referred to the DMK’s opposition to the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025, which aims to repeal the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), alleging that the State government's stance is politically driven.
He suggested that opposing the proposed legislation is a tactic to distract the public from engaging in serious discussions about job creation and rural livelihoods.
Regarding the planned protests by the Thol Thirumavalavan-led Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) against the recent Karthigai Deepam judgment, the BJP leader questioned the party's priorities. He remarked that it was “odd” that a party professing to advocate for Dalit rights had not mobilized for issues like the Vengaivayal incident, where human waste was reportedly found in a village drinking water tank, or the hooch tragedies in the State.
Nagenthran charged that the DMK and its allies selectively raise issues for political advantage while ignoring incidents that directly impact marginalized communities. He reiterated that the BJP will continue to spotlight what it describes as the shortcomings of the State government and advocate for governance that prioritizes development, education, employment, and social justice.
These comments arise amidst escalating political tensions between the DMK and the BJP concerning Centre-State relations, education policy, and welfare initiatives in Tamil Nadu.
