Chennai, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu has taken a strong stance against the ruling DMK government, accusing it of not fulfilling a significant economic commitment made during the Assembly elections of 2021.

BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran claimed that the DMK has failed to act on its promise to alleviate the state's debt burden and bolster the economy by establishing a high-level expert committee.

In reference to the DMK’s 2021 election manifesto, Nagenthran pointed out that Promise No. 25 explicitly mentioned the formation of a high-powered committee to examine the escalating debt and propose solutions.

"The Chief Minister pledged to tackle Tamil Nadu's debt crisis decisively. It has been four years since the DMK assumed power. Was this merely an announcement, or has it been acted upon?" he questioned, specifically addressing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

He suggested that even if a committee was established, it was merely for show and public relations, lacking any substantial follow-up on its findings.

"Is the mere formation of a committee sufficient to claim a promise fulfilled? Today, the state's debt has surged to Rs 9.29 lakh crore. What justification does the government offer for this dramatic increase?" he queried.

The BJP leader further accused the DMK of disregarding the committee’s recommendations, implying that the initiative was purely symbolic.

He also alleged rampant corruption among what he called "large-scale corrupt beneficiaries" within the administration, asserting that public funds have been squandered due to mismanagement.

In a pointed political critique, Nagenthran stated that after depleting the state's treasury through what he labeled "empty publicity campaigns," the government habitually blames the Centre for its financial shortcomings.

He claimed that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its headquarters at Arivalayam resort to what he characterized as "crocodile tears" over insufficient central funds whenever they face difficult questions.

In conclusion, the BJP leader asserted that the citizens of Tamil Nadu would soon respond politically to what he termed persistent failures and unfulfilled promises. These remarks come as political tensions escalate with parties intensifying their rhetoric ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
