Chennai, April 13 (NationPress) Newly appointed BJP Tamil Nadu President Nainar Nagendran stated that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is poised to displace the current DMK government in the upcoming 2026 state Assembly elections. In a post on X on Sunday, Nagendran addressed critics who labeled the BJP-AIADMK alliance as 'incompatible', asserting, 'This alliance is indeed incompatible — but only for the DMK. It is this alliance that will put an end to the exploitative regime of @mkstalin, which has burdened the people of Tamil Nadu. This coalition will uproot a government that has appointed individuals who disrespected the dignity of Tamil Nadu’s women as ministers.'

He further noted, 'Don’t panic, Mr. Stalin. You still have one year left in office. But no one can alter the verdict that the people are about to deliver.'

Nagendran’s comments followed his formal election as the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit president the previous day during a party meeting in Chennai, where Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh announced his election.

Outgoing president K. Annamalai emphasized that the party’s mission was clear - to 'dislodge the evil shakti' of the DMK and return good governance to the state.

Speaking about the BJP’s renewed partnership with the AIADMK, Annamalai remarked, 'The path is now clear, and the selection of Nagendran was unanimous.'

Nagendran’s rise to prominence occurs at a politically crucial time as the BJP and AIADMK align ahead of the 2026 elections.

A seasoned politician, the 64-year-old leader began his career with the AIADMK, first winning a seat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly from Tirunelveli in 2001. He served as Minister for Transport, Industries, and Electricity in the Jayalalithaa-led government from 2001 to 2006.

Though he was re-elected in 2011, he did not return to the Cabinet and narrowly lost the Tirunelveli seat in both 2006 and 2016. Following the passing of Jayalalithaa in 2016, Nagendran joined the BJP. He reclaimed the Tirunelveli seat in the 2021 Assembly elections and was designated the BJP Legislature Party Leader in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He also contested the Lok Sabha elections from Ramanathapuram in 2019 and Tirunelveli in 2024, although he lost both times.
