Chennai, April 11 (NationPress) Nainar Nagendran, the Vice President of BJP Tamil Nadu and current MLA representing the Tirunelveli constituency, has officially submitted his nomination for the position of state President of the party.

His nomination received backing from notable party figures, such as the sitting state BJP President K. Annamalai, Union Minister L. Murugan, former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, and Mahila Morcha President and MLA Vanathi Srinivasan.

According to party insiders, Nagendran is expected to be announced as the new state President, taking over from Annamalai.

Nagendran is currently serving as the leader of the BJP's legislature party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

He has previously held the role of Tamil Nadu Minister from May 19, 2001, until May 12, 2006, under the leadership of former Chief Ministers J. Jayalalithaa and O. Panneerselvam.

A veteran in politics, Nagendran was elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly from the Tirunelveli constituency in 2006 and 2011 as a candidate from AIADMK, and again in 2021 as a member of the BJP.

He has held the position of BJP Tamil Nadu Vice President since July 3, 2020.

The political landscape in Chennai is heating up with the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

HM Shah met with RSS ideologue S. Gurumurthy at his residence in Mylapore for a private discussion, highlighting the importance of his visit.

A significant meeting is also planned between HM Shah and AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), along with senior AIADMK officials.

This meeting is viewed as critical in assessing the revival of the BJP-AIADMK alliance in the lead-up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

HM Shah and EPS had previously met in New Delhi, accompanied by senior AIADMK leaders S.P. Velumani and K.P. Munusamy. That meeting had already ignited rumors regarding a potential partnership between the two parties.

Reports indicate that several senior RSS leaders have been urging the BJP’s central leadership to reestablish connections with a major Dravidian party, identifying AIADMK as the sole viable partner, especially given the DMK’s opposition.

These RSS representatives are advocating for an early alliance to facilitate effective grassroots coordination and campaign strategies ahead of 2026.

Insiders reveal that EPS has made a request to HM Shah, suggesting he consider replacing Annamalai as state BJP President to enhance the alliance's prospects.

In a surprising twist, Annamalai declared on April 4 that he will not pursue any leadership roles in the future. He reaffirmed his dedication to the party as a devoted member, seemingly paving the way for a transition in leadership.
