Nainar Nagenthran to Represent Sattur in Tamil Nadu Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 31 (NationPress) The BJP's Tamil Nadu state chief, Nainar Nagenthran, announced on Tuesday his decision to run in the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Sattur. This comes after he has agreed to relinquish the Tirunelveli constituency to the NDA's partner, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, in accordance with the seat-sharing strategy within the NDA.
Speaking to the media in Tirunelveli, Nagenthran explained that this move was made at the request of the AIADMK and demonstrated the coalition’s dedication to unity as the elections approach. “In light of AIADMK's request for Tirunelveli, I have consented to contest from Sattur. I will submit my nomination there once the candidate list is revealed,” he stated, noting that BJP candidates statewide are anticipated to file their nominations on April 4.
Nagenthran stressed that this constituency change would not diminish his connection with the electorate or the party’s overarching political strategy. “Regardless of where I stand for election, my commitment to the people throughout Tamil Nadu will persist. Tirunelveli will always hold a special place in my heart,” he affirmed, highlighting his long-term bond with the area.
Characterizing the Assembly elections as a critical evaluation of governance, he launched a pointed critique against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, claiming the government has failed to deliver on its electoral commitments.
He also asserted that the law-and-order situation in Tamil Nadu has worsened under the current regime. “We will issue a comprehensive chargesheet against the DMK government,” he remarked, further alleging that press freedom is being compromised in the state.
He referenced what he termed a “death threat” from a DMK official directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi as indicative of the troubling political environment.
In addressing the DMK’s manifesto, Nagenthran commented that while the previous manifesto was touted as a “hero,” the current version has become a “zero.”
He accused the ruling party of practicing selective secularism, pointing out inconsistencies in their religious festival greetings.
Reacting to the recent political uproar, he clarified that former BJP state president K. Annamalai was not present to greet Prime Minister Modi during his visit to Coimbatore because he was out of town at that time.
Reassuring confidence in the NDA's potential, Nagenthran stated that the alliance will launch a robust and synchronized campaign across Tamil Nadu leading up to the elections.
