Chennai, July 3 (NationPress) In a significant gesture reflecting the renewed camaraderie between the AIADMK and the BJP, the leadership of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has officially invited Tamil Nadu's BJP chief K. Annamalai’s successor and current state president, Nainar Nagendran, along with other senior BJP officials, to attend the campaign launch led by party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on July 7 in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore.
As per reliable sources within the AIADMK, this invitation was relayed through a prominent party leader and signifies a crucial outreach towards their alliance partner.
The campaign, themed ‘Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom’ (Let’s Protect the People and Reclaim Tamil Nadu), will commence from the Western region and is perceived as the initial major stride in the party’s preparations for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Palaniswami plans to tour nine districts, engage with 21 party units, and conduct over 30 public meetings during the campaign’s first phase.
This initiative aims to bolster the party’s grassroots connections and mobilize cadres ahead of what is anticipated to be a fiercely contested electoral battle next year.
The inclusion of BJP leaders on the campaign stage is regarded as a strategic move to alleviate concerns regarding any discord within the NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu.
“Our state president, Nainar Nagendran, has been formally invited by our ally, and we will be present at the launch event to demonstrate our unwavering support,” stated BJP general secretary A.P. Muruganandam.
He further mentioned that a substantial group of BJP cadres from Coimbatore and surrounding areas in western Tamil Nadu will also participate in the event to show solidarity with the AIADMK.
This marks the first occasion since the revival of the BJP-AIADMK alliance on April 11 — witnessed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Chennai — where senior leaders from both factions will jointly appear at a political gathering.
However, the renewed partnership faced a brief challenge during the Hindu Munnani’s Murugan Manadu in Madurai, where an audio-visual presentation featured derogatory references to Dravidian icons Thanthai Periyar and C.N. Annadurai, prompting significant backlash from AIADMK leaders.
The party condemned the remarks publicly and reaffirmed its dedication to its Dravidian heritage. Despite this setback, both factions have since endeavored to resolve differences, with this joint appearance anticipated to convey a strong message of unity to their party members and the electorate.
