R. Sarathkumar Engages with TN BJP Leader for Clear Party Role
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 23 (NationPress) Actor and politician R. Sarathkumar had a meeting with the President of the Tamil Nadu BJP, Nainar Nagenthran, on Monday, where he formally requested a clear organizational role within the party. This request follows his public expression of discontent regarding feelings of being 'sidelined' in significant responsibilities.
The meeting took place at Nagenthran's residence in T Nagar, highlighting its importance as the BJP gears up for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
As discussions about enhancing the party's structure are ongoing, Sarathkumar's initiative is perceived as an attempt to gain clarity about his position in the state's BJP unit.
Having merged his All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) with the BJP two years ago, Sarathkumar is a member of the national executive council. This merger was regarded as a strategic move aimed at widening the party's outreach to various communities in the state, particularly where Sarathkumar holds significant sway.
After the meeting, Sarathkumar stated that he had communicated his concerns in writing and felt satisfied with the response received from the state leadership.
He mentioned that Nagenthran had recognized the issues he raised and assured him that these demands would be taken seriously. “We have now submitted our request in writing to the state president. He indicated that the demands are valid and would be considered,” Sarathkumar informed the media post-meeting.
He clarified that his earlier comments were rooted in a sense of frustration rather than any conflict with the party's leadership.
Reiterating his dedication to the BJP, Sarathkumar expressed optimism that a favorable resolution would be achieved shortly.
“I have already voiced my concerns. I believe they will be addressed,” he said, adding that he felt content after the discussion and was hopeful about the results.
When asked about a possible meeting with Union Minister and BJP's Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal, Sarathkumar mentioned his plans to travel to Coimbatore and would meet him if requested.
Party insiders suggested that talks are still in progress, and a decision regarding his role is expected to be made in the near future as part of the overall organizational strategy.
