Why is the BJP Criticizing Karnataka Government's Ads Against VB—G RAM G?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 29 (NationPress) The BJP has expressed strong disapproval of the advertisements published by the Karnataka state government in leading newspapers, which target the Viksit Bharat — Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB—G RAM G) Bill, 2025. They argue that the government is steering the state towards chaos.
Claims have been made that the state is attempting to create a rift between its citizens and the Central government.
BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra voiced these concerns during a media briefing at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Thursday, alongside Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka.
Vijayendra stated, “We denounce the state government’s action of publicizing advertisements against the law enacted by the Centre, VB—G RAM G.”
“It is an unforgivable act for the state government to incite the populace against the Centre,” he asserted.
He claimed that the advertisements propagate misleading information and that state funds have been misappropriated for this purpose rather than using party resources.
Vijayendra suggested that the government should instead focus on advertising the successes of Minister Priyank Kharge in the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) sector. “Instead, they contend that the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is disrespecting Mahatma Gandhi,” he remarked.
Vijayendra further questioned the Congress leaders' moral standing to discuss Mahatma Gandhi, asserting that they struggle to secure funding for their promises while increasing liquor license fees. “Do they possess any right to discuss Mahatma Gandhi?” he challenged.
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka accused the Karnataka government of utilizing public funds for its own promotion. “They have disseminated advertisements across all newspapers opposing the VB—G RAM G Act from the Centre,” he stated.
He criticized the advertisement for featuring Mahatma Gandhi's image alongside that of a common citizen, deeming this action inappropriate. “They have no authority to publish advertisements opposing a Central law,” he said.
Ashoka emphasized that once a bill is legislated, the state government has no jurisdiction to contest it. “They should have raised their concerns prior to the bill's passage in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,” he mentioned.
Ashoka remarked that Mahatma Gandhi had suggested the dissolution of the Congress party post-Independence.
He alleged that Congress leaders chose not to dissolve the party and instead engaged in corruption. “The MGNREGA scheme has been exploited for financial fraud, as stated by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Senior Congress figure Jairam Ramesh has also affirmed that MGNREGA funds were misused,” Ashoka alleged.
“Disseminating statements that Mahatma Gandhi never made disrespects his legacy. We will protest against this in the House alongside the JD(S),” Ashoka vowed.
