Kolkata, April 5 (NationPress) Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury, the BJP lawmaker representing the English Bazar Assembly constituency in the minority-heavy Malda district of West Bengal, on Saturday revealed that she has sent letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, voicing her concerns about possible attacks on the Ram Navami celebrations in the district scheduled for Sunday.
She also raised alarms about similar threats to Ram Navami festivities in the nearby Murshidabad district, which is also minority-dominated.
“In light of recent assaults on individuals from a specific community by members of another community in both Mothabari in Malda and Beldanga in Murshidabad, I am concerned that the Ram Navami procession in these districts may face threats on Sunday. With the state police's limited resources, they often delegate responsibilities to civic volunteers. Hence, I have urged the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to have central police force personnel on standby in these districts,” she stated.
She emphasized that each year, Ram Navami is celebrated with great enthusiasm in her English Bazar constituency.
“Similar grand celebrations and processions are expected this Sunday. However, given the recent events in Mothabari and Beldanga, there are valid reasons for concern. Civic volunteers alone cannot manage the situation effectively. This is why I have requested the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to arrange for CAPF personnel to be on standby and deploy combat forces in the region,” Mitra Chaudhury asserted.
Furthermore, she alleged that in certain areas near the international borders with Bangladesh, there are active cells targeting minors for indoctrination.
“They are specifically focusing on underage minors for manipulation, knowing that their punishments will be significantly lighter under juvenile laws. The masterminds of these cells are operating from Jammu & Kashmir, with their associates active in these regions of West Bengal,” Mitra Chaudhury claimed.
Recently, two senior officials from the state police also warned that they have received credible intelligence regarding certain vested interests attempting to provoke violence, particularly aimed at the Ram Navami celebrations.
