New Delhi, Oct 7 (NationPress) A political uproar has emerged following West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's accusations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly politicizing a natural disaster. This has prompted fierce and personal criticisms from various BJP leaders who challenged her response and dedication to the flood-affected areas.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam expressed his discontent, stating, “From the outset, Mamata Banerjee's remarks have indicated frustration. If the Prime Minister shows concern during a calamity, does that disturb her? He is the Prime Minister of India. When disaster strikes any region, causing loss of life and necessitating high-level assistance, does she anticipate a tweet from the Prime Minister of Pakistan instead?”
In a similar vein, BJP MP Arjun Singh asserted that Banerjee’s critique showcased a lack of composure: “The Prime Minister has noted that there is lawlessness in Bengal. Mamata Banerjee has lost her grip, which is why she is making such statements.”
Dilip Ghosh, a senior BJP leader and former state president, questioned Banerjee’s absence from the affected regions: “What is Mamata Banerjee doing? Instead of attending to governance, why is she in Kolkata? Why hasn’t she visited the flood-affected areas? The people of North Bengal consistently express feelings of neglect. The government focuses on tallying losses and asking for funds from the Centre, yet shows no empathy. They revel in festivities in Kolkata while disregarding the hardships in North Bengal.”
These comments were a reaction to a comprehensive statement by Mamata Banerjee on the social media platform 'X', where she voiced her concerns regarding the Prime Minister’s remarks and accused him of politicizing a natural disaster without awaiting an official probe.
In her statement, Banerjee mentioned: “It is deeply regrettable and a serious concern that the Prime Minister of India has opted to politicize a natural disaster without waiting for any appropriate investigation—especially at a time when the people of North Bengal are contending with devastating floods and landslides.”
She went on to claim that while state officials and police were occupied with relief efforts, BJP leaders chose to enter affected regions with large convoys and central force protection, all without notifying local authorities.
“The Prime Minister has accused the Trinamool Congress and the West Bengal government without any evidence, legal investigation, or administrative report. This not only reflects political pettiness but also contravenes the constitutional morality that the Prime Minister pledged to uphold. In any democratic setup, the law should take its course, and accountability for an incident is established through due process—not through a tweet from a political pulpit,” she concluded.
