Bengaluru, April 17 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP criticized the state government on Thursday regarding the unresolved meeting of the special Cabinet concerning the caste census, referring to it as a grand spectacle reminiscent of a television drama.
"The caste census saga that was initiated a decade ago by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appears to be unfolding like a never-ending TV series," stated Karnataka's Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka.
He further remarked that in a clear attempt to shift focus from the growing public dissatisfaction over soaring prices, declining law and order, and stalled development within the state, Siddaramaiah has resurfaced the caste census report.
According to Ashoka, it seems Siddaramaiah has resolved to persistently promote the narrative of the caste census until public discontent with his administration wanes.
"What was resolved in today’s special Cabinet meeting? If no conclusions were reached regarding the caste census report, what is the purpose of such meetings? It has been reported that Siddaramaiah has instructed all ministers to provide written feedback on the report. If this is accurate, does it reflect a lack of confidence among cabinet members?" he questioned.
He accused the government of using the collection of written statements as a tactic to coerce ministers or exploit their responses for political leverage.
"Was there any conversation about redoing the caste census with a more scientific methodology?" he inquired.
The Karnataka Cabinet convened on Thursday night for a thorough discussion regarding the findings of the 2015 Social and Educational Survey (caste census).
The special Cabinet meeting aimed at reaching a decision on the caste census report concluded without any resolution.
The discussion has been postponed until the next Cabinet meeting, anticipated for next week. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has requested his Cabinet colleagues to present their views and objections, either in written form or verbally, during the upcoming meeting.
Sources indicated that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and several ministers voiced opposition to the caste census report.
Reportedly, Horticulture Minister S.S. Mallikarjun also prominently opposed the caste census report.
Minister H.K. Patil mentioned that the Cabinet engaged in an extensive discussion regarding the report based on data from the 2015 Social and Educational Survey.
"As additional information and technical details are essential for further discussions, senior officials have been instructed to provide them. The conversation remains incomplete," the minister stated.
