Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin on Thursday, 17 September launched a pointed political offensive against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi during his first visit to Madhya Pradesh since assuming the party's top post, accusing the Opposition of consistently placing political interests above national ones. The remarks came at a gathering in Indore, where Nabin also formally launched the statewide registration drive under the Swamitva Yojana alongside Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.

Key Remarks Against the Opposition

Addressing the event as part of the BJP's month-long 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' — timed to coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 76th birthday — Nabin drew a pointed contrast between the two major parties' approach to welfare governance. He argued that previous governments had designed schemes around targeted communities rather than the broader poor, framing this as vote-bank politics.

'In the past, when schemes were formulated, the focus was on which specific community or group to target. The poor were invisible through that lens — only the vote bank was visible,' Nabin said.

He also took aim at the Congress's response to India's recent international standing, referencing the BRICS summit without naming any specific Opposition leader. 'Recently, the BRICS summit took place and the world witnessed India's strength, but our Opposition was busy finding faults even as the rest of the world acknowledged our stature,' he said, adding: 'For the Congress, the party may come first and the nation later. But for the BJP, the nation comes first.'

Swamitva Yojana Launch and Free Registration Drive

The political address was paired with a substantive policy rollout. Nabin and Chief Minister Yadav jointly launched a new registration process under the Swamitva Yojana, which aims to provide legal ownership documents to rural property holders and enable them to use their land as an economic asset.

The Madhya Pradesh government plans to cover approximately 50 lakh rural properties under the free-registration initiative, absorbing stamp and registration charges on the beneficiaries' behalf. According to state government data, rights records have already been prepared for inhabited land across 41,568 villages. The first registration document was formally handed over to beneficiaries at the Indore event.

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan Context

Chief Minister Yadav confirmed that the free-registration exercise would run from 17 September to 17 October as part of the broader 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan'. Nabin also defended the BJP's birthday observances for the Prime Minister, including the lighting of diyas, describing the exercise as an expression of public participation in the government's welfare programmes rather than a purely political celebration. He cited housing, Ujjwala and other Central schemes as examples of direct-benefit delivery that the BJP's campaigns were highlighting.

Nabin's Madhya Pradesh Debut

This was Nabin's maiden visit to Madhya Pradesh in his capacity as BJP president. He arrived in Indore after a roadshow and was received by state party leaders and workers. The visit signals an early effort by the new party chief to consolidate organisational presence in BJP-governed states while using welfare launches as a platform for political messaging ahead of future electoral cycles.

With the Swamitva Yojana registration drive now formally underway across the state, attention will shift to whether the 50 lakh property target is met within the October deadline and how the Opposition responds to the BJP's welfare-versus-vote-bank framing.
