Is Kerala BJP's Protest Against Priyanka a Shield for CPI-M?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kalpetta, Jan 29 (NationPress) A.P. Anilkumar, the Working President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), stated on Thursday that the protest organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Congress Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi was intended to provide political protection to the CPI(M).
He criticized the BJP for opting to demonstrate outside Priyanka Gandhi's office instead of addressing the allegations against CPI(M) leaders involved in the Sabarimala gold smuggling case. Anilkumar described this tactic as a calculated effort to defend the ruling party.
“What relevance does Priyanka Gandhi have with the Sabarimala gold smuggling case?” Anilkumar questioned.
He pointed out that CPI(M) leaders have been incarcerated for weeks due to an investigation overseen by the High Court.
“So, who should the BJP actually be protesting against?” he inquired.
Anilkumar also questioned the BJP's reluctance to march to the Kerala Chief Minister's Office or the residence of Devaswom Minister V.N. Vasavan.
“What is the BJP afraid of?” he asked.
He argued that beyond those currently imprisoned concerning the Sabarimala case, the investigation should also encompass senior CPI(M) leaders.
“At this pivotal moment, the BJP's actions represent a political spectacle intentionally crafted to safeguard the CPI(M),” he alleged.
He remarked that the previously clandestine relationship between the BJP and the CPI(M) has become increasingly evident, asserting that the protest in Kalpetta is a clear indication of this developing alliance.
Anilkumar linked the BJP's protest to a recent incident in the Kerala Assembly, in which Education Minister V. Sivankutty made highly controversial comments about Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.
“In truth, there is no distinction between the CPI(M) and the BJP,” he claimed, asserting that the CPI(M) is now collaborating with the BJP to oppose the Congress.
According to Anilkumar, the BJP has continuously backed the CPI(M) even during Congress-led protests against the ruling party.
“Previously, two spokespersons were necessary for both parties. Now, one spokesperson suffices for both,” he quipped.
The remarks made by Education Minister Sivankutty, along with the BJP's march to the CPI(M) office in Kalpetta, serve as evidence of the deepening ties between the two parties, Anilkumar concluded.
