New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) A delegation from the Dawoodi Bohra community met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to discuss the challenges posed by the previous Waqf (Amendment) Act.
During the meeting at the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi, PM Modi was joined by Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.
One community member explained that they purchased a property in Bhendi Bazaar, Mumbai, in 2015 for a substantial amount after extensive negotiations.
“We were the legitimate owners of this property, acquired at a premium. However, in 2019, a third party from Nasik and Ahmedabad claimed it was Waqf property,” they informed the Prime Minister.
They emphasized the necessity for amendments to the Waqf Act, expressing full support for PM Modi's initiatives.
“You rightly mentioned that development should be envisioned for the next 100 years, and your actions regarding the Waqf Act reflect this vision,” they stated.
Another member described their community as a minority within a minority, acknowledging that PM Modi has addressed their needs more than any previous Prime Minister.
“As a minority within a minority, your support has been remarkable. You have taken significant steps to empower our community,” they told the Prime Minister.
A different community member expressed gratitude for PM Modi's invitation to his residence and for the time he dedicated to their concerns.
“Thank you for welcoming us into your home and for listening to our issues. We have always shared a strong bond with you,” they mentioned.
They indicated that the Waqf Act has granted the minority community a significant place in society, which would ultimately benefit the nation.
“Your commitment to Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas is evident. I truly believe that your decisive action regarding the Waqf Act will propel India forward,” they conveyed to the Prime Minister.
He added, “Though we are a minority, your generous heart encompasses us. Even amidst your busy schedule, you offered us your valuable time, and we appreciate it.”
Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister for Minority Affairs, was also present during the meeting with the Dawoodi Bohra community.
He shared images of the gathering on social media, stating, “The Dawoodi Bohra Community met PM Modi to express their sincere thanks for the Waqf Amendment Act, which addresses a long-standing request.”
He further remarked that their faith in PM Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas was profoundly touching.
The Dawoodi Bohra community represents a sect within the Shia Ismaili branch of Islam, boasting a considerable presence in India and across forty other nations.
Importantly, they had previously reached out to the Joint Parliamentary Committee regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, seeking exemption from Waqf board oversight, arguing that the proposed legislation fails to acknowledge their unique status among the broader Muslim community.
