New Delhi/London, July 24 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in London on Wednesday evening for a two-day engagement in the United Kingdom (UK), emphasizing that a robust friendship between the two nations is crucial for global progress.
"Just arrived in London. This visit is set to enhance our economic collaboration. The emphasis will be on promoting prosperity, growth, and creating jobs for our citizens. A strong India-UK friendship is vital for global advancements," PM Modi shared on the social media platform X.
"We are initiating a new chapter in the India-Great Britain Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. PM @narendramodi has landed in London for an official visit. Upcoming discussions with PM @Keir_Starmer and a meeting with His Majesty King Charles III @RoyalFamily are on the agenda," stated Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, on X.
Modi's UK visit, which is taking place from July 23 to 24, was made at the invitation of his British counterpart, Keir Starmer, marking his fourth official trip to the UK.
"As I depart for the UK, I reflect on our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has gained remarkable momentum in recent years. I eagerly anticipate discussions with PM Keir Starmer and my meeting with His Majesty King Charles III," PM Modi tweeted before his departure.
During this visit, both nations will evaluate the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), focusing specifically on trade, economy, technology, innovation, defense, security, climate, health, education, and cultural exchanges, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
Discussions will also encompass regional and global matters of mutual interest.
This visit is projected to reinvigorate the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), with both leaders aiming to assess progress and explore new avenues for collaboration, including the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
During his stay, PM Modi is also expected to have an audience with King Charles III.
The FTA, now under negotiation for three years, is anticipated to abolish tariffs on 99% of Indian exports to the UK and reduce tariffs on 90% of British goods.
It is estimated that this agreement will double bilateral trade by 2030, increasing it from the current $60 billion and bolstering British exports like whisky and automobiles to India.
PM Modi is anticipated to address concerns regarding Khalistani extremists in the UK.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri remarked, "The issue concerning Khalistani extremists and associated entities has been raised with our UK partners."
The Ministry of External Affairs noted that this visit builds on the ongoing high-level interactions between the two countries. PM Modi and PM Starmer have previously met twice—once in Brazil at the G20 Summit and again at the G7 in June 2025, in addition to multiple phone discussions.
