New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the 'Guide on Preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Road Infrastructure Projects', crafted by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), at South Block in New Delhi.
The BRO is responsible for the construction and upkeep of highways and strategic routes in some of the country’s most remote and difficult landscapes. The DPRs serve as a detailed document that includes engineering design, construction methodology, execution strategy, quality control, and cost analysis.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), “BRO has developed this guide to serve as a concise, comprehensive, and standardized reference that encompasses specifications, standards, guidelines, and procedures for DPR preparation. It is designed to aid engineers at every phase of project development, whether for new builds or the enhancement of existing road infrastructure.”
The intention behind the guide is to tackle the challenges of time and cost overruns that often stem from poorly prepared DPRs.
As stated in the release, “It is projected to substantially improve the quality and uniformity of the reports, ensuring timely project execution and fostering enhanced strategic connectivity and socio-economic growth in border regions through meticulous planning, technical precision, quality assurance, and cost efficiency.”
Attending the event were Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Secretary V. Umashankar, DG Border Roads Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, along with numerous senior civil and military officials.
Earlier in December, Rajnath Singh dedicated to the nation 125 strategically significant infrastructure projects from the BRO, reaffirming the commitment of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government to bolster border infrastructure.
He characterized connectivity tools as essential for security, economic stability, and disaster management, stating, “Robust infrastructure in border regions brings numerous advantages. It guarantees military mobility, facilitates seamless logistics transportation, boosts tourism and employment opportunities, and most importantly, strengthens trust in development, democracy, and governance.”
The 125 projects inaugurated on December 7 span two Union Territories—Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir—and seven states—Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Mizoram.
These comprise 28 roads, 93 bridges, and four other projects, all accomplished at a total cost of Rs 5,000 crore, marking the highest-value inaugurations in the history of the BRO.
