Kolkata, Oct 28 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a significant gold smuggling operation along the Indo-Bangladesh Border by apprehending a smuggler and confiscating gold valued at over Rs 2.45 crore in the North 24-Parganas district of West Bengal.

A senior BSF official revealed that personnel from the 145 Bn BSF, South Bengal Frontier, stationed at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Petrapole, received actionable intelligence about an impending gold smuggling attempt from Bangladesh into India, leading them to remain vigilant.

“A BSF vehicle inspection team stopped an empty truck entering India from Benapole, Bangladesh. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered two green packets containing eight pieces of gold,” he explained.

The official further detailed that the packets consisted of six gold bars and two biscuits, with a total weight of 1,974.540 grams of gold.

“The gold is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 2,45,79,073.90. During interrogation, the vehicle's driver admitted to being paid to transport the contraband across the border,” he noted.

The smuggler, along with the truck and the seized gold, has been turned over to the appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings.

The official emphasized that the BSF remains steadfast in its mission to combat cross-border crimes along the India-Bangladesh frontier.

“This incident highlights the vigilance and operational capabilities of BSF personnel stationed at ICP Petrapole. We have bolstered our intelligence operations, achieving seamless coordination among all units, leading to these successes,” he added.
