Srinagar, Aug 1 (NationPress) Officials reported that a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier, who had been unaccounted for in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar, has been located in Delhi on Friday. The missing BSF trooper, Sugam Choudhary, serving as a general duty constable, disappeared from his battalion headquarters situated in the Panthachowk area of Srinagar on Thursday evening.
Following his disappearance, both the BSF and local police initiated an extensive search operation after a missing report was filed at the local police station.
“Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, the constable was assigned to the ‘C’ company of the 60th battalion. Despite thorough searches of nearby locations including bus and taxi terminals and the Nowgam Railway Station in Srinagar, he remained untraceable,” officials indicated. “A missing report was lodged at the Police Station Panthachowk by his unit.”
A senior officer from the BSF confirmed that Choudhary has been found in Delhi.
“He was discovered en route to his residence without the necessary permissions,” the officer stated, revealing that a departmental investigation will ensue.
Earlier, the officer had dismissed any potential subversive motives behind the incident.
Further insights will be available once his statement is documented, according to officials.
It is noteworthy that following the April 22 terror incident in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians at the hands of Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, security forces have heightened their alertness in Jammu and Kashmir.
All three Pakistan-based terrorists involved in the Pahalgam assault were neutralized on July 28 during a joint operation in the elevated regions of Dachigam National Park, close to the Mahadev mountain peak in Harwan area of Srinagar.
The deceased terrorists comprised of Suleman Shah along with his associates Abu Hamza and Jibran Bhai. The military dubbed this operation ‘Operation Mahadev’.
Security forces continue to conduct robust anti-terror operations targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in the union territory.
