Gandhinagar, April 14 (NationPress) A jawan from the State Reserve Police (SRP) tragically took his own life while on duty at the New Secretariat complex in Gandhinagar, according to police reports on Tuesday.
The individual has been named as Rajendrasinh Gohil (49), a member of SRP Group-9 stationed in Vadodara, originally hailing from Bhavnagar district.
During the incident, he was positioned at Gate No. 3 of the highly secure Secretariat area.
As per the police's account, Gohil began his shift around midnight after taking over from a reliever, and the event is believed to have occurred late Monday night.
His body was found around 5 A.M. on Tuesday by a fellow jawan who, after noticing his absence at the designated post, initiated a search and discovered him hanging from a tree nearby using a plastic rope.
A team from the Sector-7 Police Station arrived shortly after being notified. The body was retrieved and transported to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Inspector A.G. Solanki stated to IANS, “The body was discovered early this morning, while the incident occurred late last night. It was found when a fellow jawan could not find him at his post and went to look for him.”
He added, “The body has been sent for post-mortem and a medical examination is currently underway. Gohil was originally from Bhavnagar.”
Solanki also mentioned that statements are being collected as part of the investigation. “We are in the process of recording statements, including from family members. The reasons behind the suicide are being investigated,” he remarked.
The police have classified the case as an accidental death and have launched further inquiries. So far, no suicide note has been found.
Authorities noted that all potential factors, including personal and work-related issues, are being thoroughly examined.
This incident, which took place within a highly secured government facility, is currently under forensic scrutiny, with more information anticipated following the post-mortem and completion of the investigation.
