Kota, Jan 17 (NationPress) A JEE aspirant in Kota tragically took his own life by hanging from a ceiling fan, as reported by police officials on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Abhijeet Giri (18), originally from Odisha, who had been residing in Kota since April 2024. The circumstances leading to his decision remain unclear.

This incident marks the third suicide of a coaching student in Kota within a span of just 10 days.

According to ASI Lal Singh Tanwar, authorities were alerted regarding the suicide that occurred at Jain Villa Residency Hostel in Ambedkar Colony.

The authorities will conduct a postmortem examination after the family members arrive, as stated by the police.

Rajendra Jain, the hostel owner, mentioned that Abhijeet had been a resident at the hostel since April 2024, preparing for the JEE. 'Just two days prior, on January 15, we discussed rent, and Abhijeet indicated he would stay for another month. On January 16, at around 8 p.m., when the mess attendant, Sonu Yadav, arrived to deliver food, Abhijeet did not respond to the door. Upon breaking the door down, he was found hanging from the fan,' he recounted.

Rajendra Jain highlighted that Abhijeet was a dedicated and bright student who consistently attended his coaching sessions.

This incident is the third reported student suicide within the first month of 2025 in Kota.

Previously, two students took their lives on January 7 and January 8.

On January 7, Neeraj Jat (19) from Mahendragarh, Haryana, also hung himself in his hostel room located in the Jawahar Nagar area after residing in Kota for two years for exam preparation.

The following day, on January 8, Abhishek Lodha, a 19-year-old from Guna, Madhya Pradesh, similarly took his life by hanging in the Vigyan Nagar police station area while preparing for the JEE Advanced.
