Tragic Incident: 19-Year-Old JEE Aspirant from Haryana Takes His Life in Kota, Rajasthan

Kota, Jan 8 (NationPress) A 19-year-old engineering (JEE) aspirant is believed to have taken his own life by suspending himself from a ceiling fan inside his hostel room in Rajasthan's Kota, as reported by the police on Wednesday.
The individual, recognized as Neeraj from Mahendragarh, Haryana, was discovered hanging in his hostel accommodation in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar on Tuesday night.
The hostel proprietor, who found the deceased during a routine room inspection, promptly notified the police and the family of the student. The police have since taken possession of the body and transported it to the mortuary.
According to the police, no suicide note was located in the student's room. The body will undergo a post-mortem examination before being returned to the family. Additionally, if the father files a complaint, suitable actions will be implemented.
In a statement, the father of the deceased mentioned that there were no familial problems. He attempted to reach his son multiple times but received no response, leading him to contact the hostel manager.
The father remarked to reporters that the fan blades showed no signs of bending due to the hanging, implying he does not dismiss the potential for foul play. Nevertheless, the police have stated that no formal complaint has been lodged by him thus far.
Jawahar Nagar police CI Budhraj indicated that the student had been residing in the hostel and preparing for the JEE exam since 2023. He reportedly hanged himself in his locked room. The student was 19 years old, and the body will be sent for a post-mortem examination before being handed back to the family. The investigation will proceed after discussions with the family.
According to hostel staff, Neeraj had gone out to dinner with a friend on Tuesday evening and did not show any indications of distress. This incident marks the first reported case of student suicide in Kota in 2025. Kota, known as a hub for competitive examination training, recorded 17 suicides among coaching students in 2024, as per a report.
